Who runs this site
This website is operated by the independent Human Appreciation Day campaign at humanappreciationday.com. For privacy questions, corrections, access requests, or deletion help, contact luckysam@humanappreciationday.com.
What you provide when signing
We ask for your first name, last name, and phone number, together with your confirmation that you are 18 or older, are signing for yourself, support the petition, and consent to the described use of your information.
- First name: stored and shown publicly among recent supporters.
- Last name: stored in encrypted form and kept private.
- Phone number: used with your name to create a keyed, one-way fingerprint for duplicate detection. The phone number itself is not saved in the petition database.
- Signature record: the signing date, consent wording version, duplicate fingerprint, and a one-way hash of your private receipt code.
We do not verify phone ownership or identity. We do not use the number for calls or texts. People sharing a phone may each sign using their own names.
What becomes public
The website publishes the total number of active signatures and a small list of recent first names. First names may be seen or copied by anyone, including search engines. Last names, phone numbers, private receipt codes, and duplicate fingerprints are not published. A first name may still identify you to someone who knows you.
Why we use the information
We use it to record support for recognition of October 29 as Human Appreciation Day, display the public count and recent first names, detect repeat submissions, protect the form from abuse, and let you view or remove your signature. We rely on your consent for the signature and public first-name display. You may withdraw that consent by removing your signature.
We may use aggregate totals to explain support for the campaign. We will not send your private signature details to governments, international organizations, or other petition platforms under this consent. Any future proposal to do that would need a separate choice from you.
Technical information, cookies, and browser storage
The form uses one essential, temporary session cookie to protect submissions. It is not an advertising cookie. Your browser may keep your private receipt in session storage for the current tab so you can manage your signature. You can save a receipt file yourself; we do not send it to anyone for you.
For abuse prevention, the application temporarily stores a keyed fingerprint of your connection’s IP address and request counters. Those records expire after their rate-limit window, normally within about an hour, and are cleaned up when the application runs. We do not add your IP address to your signature record.
Our hosting provider, Hostinger, and network providers involved in delivering the site may process normal web traffic information such as IP addresses, browser information, request times, and security logs. Their operational log and backup schedules are managed by those providers. This site does not use third-party analytics, embedded social feeds, advertising trackers, or remotely loaded fonts.
Who can access private information
Access is limited to the campaign operator and service providers needed to host and protect the site. Information may also be disclosed if required by applicable law. We do not sell, rent, or share petition information for advertising.
This is a public website that may be accessed internationally. Our hosting provider may process information in countries other than yours. We do not promise that data stays in your country.
How long records stay
A signature remains active for up to two years from signing, unless removed sooner. The application removes older records when the petition is accessed or maintenance runs. Removed signatures disappear from the live count and recent-name list. Hosting backups or logs may retain earlier copies until the provider’s normal retention cycle ends; they are not used as the active petition.
If the campaign ends earlier, we will remove its active signature records. We may retain anonymous totals that no longer identify signers.
Your choices and requests
After signing, save your private receipt. Visit Manage your signature to view your stored name and signing date, or permanently remove the active signature. Anyone with your receipt can use it, so keep it private. We store a hash of the receipt and cannot recover the original code.
For a lost receipt, a name correction, or other privacy requests, email luckysam@humanappreciationday.com. Please do not email sensitive documents or a full phone number in your first message. We may ask for limited information to establish that a request relates to your signature.
Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to processing of, or receive a copy of your information, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We will consider applicable requests through the contact above.
Children and celebrating
Everyone is welcome to celebrate Human Appreciation Day. The petition form is for adults aged 18 or over. Please do not enter a child’s information. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us so we can review and remove it.
Security
We use HTTPS, private storage outside the public website folder, encryption for last names, keyed duplicate fingerprints, and controls against common submission abuse. No online system can guarantee complete security. Keep your private receipt safe and tell us if you notice a problem.
Policy updates
We will post changes on this page with a new effective date. A new purpose that requires further consent will not be applied to an existing signature without that consent.
